Tonga has been on my list of places to visit for the longest time but only this year it finally happened. It may not be the most accessible place to get to from my part of the world, but it was well worth the effort.
My friend who had been in Tonga with Scott and Swimming With Gentle Giants recommended Scott to me and am glad I took his advise.
Pre-trip: Throughout the months leading up to the trip Scott was constantly in touch with me, providing all the necessary travel tips, accommodation booking, what to expect, side trips etc. My tourist visa to Tonga took much longer than expected to come out and was very grateful that Scott went out of his way and helped a lot to expedite the process from within Tonga until my visa was finally granted.
During the trip: We benefited greatly from Scott’s leadership and experience in reading and anticipating the whales’ behaviour to maximise our in water time. Being a great photographer, he also provided everyone in the group with lots of photo-taking tips, as well as tales of his encounters with the whales over the years. The boat we used was very new, bigger than most other whale swimming boats.. Plus, with only 4 guests in the boat, there was a lot of space for everyone. Over the 1 1/2 weeks there were a lot of bonding within the group through dinners meet up and weekend excursion that Scott arranged.
So in summary, I would highly recommend Scott and Swimming With Gentle Giants and I look forward to the opportunity to join Scott again in his other trips.
