Boisterous males, nurturing females and energetic calves are abundant as the waters fill with playful behaviour and large groups of whales visiting this island paradise. We embark at 7:00am every day from your resort for a day of swimming with the whales and snorkelling the pristine coral reefs, stopping only for lunch and to admire this marine sanctuary.

Tour Leaders

Our team of professional award-winning photographers and marine biologists will be the tours leaders/hosts on your tours: Grant ThomasAlice Forrest, Angel Grimaldi. Your tour leader will contact you 1-2 weeks before you depart, to introduce themselves.

Grant Thomas is an award winning professional photographer. He will be on hand to help you get settled into life in Tonga, as well as make sure you get the most out of your photography during your time here. Grant has several seasons of whale swimming in Tonga under his belt, as well as being a PADI dive instructor, an engineer, and an experienced expedition guide.

Alice Forrest is a conservationist & marine biologist.  Her passion for the natural world has led to a range of incredible adventures, from studying blue whales in the Indian Ocean to seabirds and plastic on remote Henderson Island. Alongside degrees in Conservation and Marine Biology, Alice is a PADI Divemaster and SSI Freediver and has worked extensively in the marine tourism industry, winning several conservation awards for her work. Alice has spent many seasons in Tonga, enjoying time with the humpback whales alongside working on projects researching the impacts of plastic on our oceans, and helping communities to implement local solutions.

Angel Grimaldi is a photographer & wildlife veterinarian with extensive experience working in conservation programs around the globe.  After several years working on conservation projects inland, he moved back near the ocean, surfing, freediving and photographing wildlife underwater, later winning several awards for his photographs. As a photographer, he loves to capture unique situations and share the beauty of the ocean to inspire a connection in his viewers. He’s always happy to share his knowledge on photography and wildlife

The success of our trips is very much depending on the whales and weather conditions. Two things which are beyond our control. However, many years of experience has showed us that the period we operate these trips give the best chances for a great experience.

Day 1 Arrival (Flight)

Our driver will be waiting for you at the airport and will take you to your accommodation(Check-in 1 pm). In the evening your guides will meet you for dinner and give you a briefing about the upcoming tour and what to expect during your time in Tonga.

Day 2 Day of Rest (Sunday)

Sunday’s are a day of rest in Tonga, so its a great time catch up on a good book or just relax on a beach.

Day 3-5 Swim with Whales

Pickup from your accommodation for a day of whale watching & snorkeling.

Day 6 Leisure Day (Thursday)

Spend the day exploring the islands, snorkeling, diving, hiking or just relaxing on a beach. There are plenty of activities to keep you entertained.

Day 7-10 Swim with Whales

Pickup from your accommodation for a day of whale watching & snorkeling.

Day 11 Leisure Day or (Alternate Flight Departure)

Spend the day exploring the islands, snorkeling, diving, hiking or just relaxing on a beach. There are plenty of activities to keep you entertained. If you have a flight booked for (Tuesday) we will organise a transfer to the Airport.

Day 12 Departure (Flight)

Our driver will be waiting for you at your accommodation to take you to the airport (Checkout 10am). As flight schedules can change, we recommend confirming your flights the day before you leave.

Tonga Time

The schedule above is a guide and things change often when you are on an Island in Tonga. The locals are on what we call ‘Tonga Time’, so don’t be disappointed if the skipper is late, or your meals are not served on time, or you don’t get exactly what you ask for, just relax and enjoy this tropical paradise.

We try to visit some of the most amazing snorkeling spots in Tonga as we search for the whales, including untouched coral reefs, caves and lagoons. But if you haven’t had enough after your days on the water there are always lots of other adventures:

Tour costs include 11 nights in a premium shared accommodation on beautiful Neiafu Harbour. If you wish to extend your stay or arrive early and depart later, we can organise accommodation. Any dates outside the tour packaged will be charged accordingly.
